Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has now weighed in on this discussion. Within a Twitter thread about a potential 2023 release date for Grand Theft Auto VI, Schreier weighed in saying "everything" Tom Henderson's stated matched up with his information. More specifically, he confirmed:

[I don't know] why everyone thinks that I said GTA VI was coming in 2023. Everything Tom Henderson has said about the game matches up with what I've heard.

When queried about this further, one reply said that people believed this because Schreier previously advised a 2023 release date sounded "more realistic" than 2021. Confirming he did state this, Schreier clarified those comments came "before we entered a pandemic that still hasn't stopped".

According to known leaker Tom Henderson, Grand Theft Auto VI is launching in 2025 with two protagonists and an evolving map. While Rockstar Games hasn't officially lifted the lid on any GTA VI plans, Henderson's taken to YouTube to address current speculation.

You can watch the video below, but here's an outline of what Henderson stated:

  • GTA VI will take place in the modern-day, allowing similar freedom to GTA Online's expansions.
  • Vice City will be included, evolving and expanding over time with changing locations.
  • Two protagonists, including a female character that handles technical matters like hacking.
  • Still in very early development
  • Release date is currently aiming for 2024/2025
  • Targeted platforms include PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

While a lot of this shouldn't come as a particular surprise, there's some interesting details to pour through here, though these could certainly change throughout development. In the meantime though, GTA V isn't going anywhere.

Despite Rockstar Games recently announcing the closure of GTA Online for PS3 and Xbox 360 in December, there's still plans for Online elsewhere, to say nothing of GTA V's PS5/Xbox Series X|S upgrades. For more information on GTA's latest updates, we've got you covered right here.
