Horizon Forbidden West is an action role-playing game from Guerilla Games. It is the sequel to 2017's highly-successful Horizon Zero Dawn. Set six months after the ending of the first game, it's down to Aloy to try to save the world again. This time, a red blight is infecting the land and it's destroying everything it touches.

Aloy must venture into the Forbidden West to figure out what the blight is, and more importantly, how to stop it. Along the way, there will be numerous other threats for her to face, including a lot of brand-new machines. Most of them will be hostile towards Aloy and she will need to use all of her skills to fight them off. However, there's a special machine that may be completely peaceful in her presence.

In this guide, we're going to show you all Tallneck locations, what they are, and how you can complete them.

All Tallneck Locations

You can find the locations of all six Tallnecks below:

What Are Tallnecks?

Tallnecks are one of the few, if not the only, machines that are not aggressive toward Aloy. They are massive machines that look similar to long-necked dinosaurs thanks to their extremely tall neck (hence the name). They are reconnaissance machines that repeatedly walk the same path in each area. While they are walking, they scan the area using their large disc-shaped head. After they scan the area, they relay anything that they have seen to any machines that are nearby. This means that they are a great source of information for Aloy, all she needs to do is get it.

How to Complete a Tallneck

Each Tallneck in the Forbidden West requires a slightly different approach. For some of them, you'll need to solve puzzles that will allow you to find a way to climb onto one while it's still moving. For others, you'll need to find other ways to access its head.

All you need to do is get to the disc-shaped head of the Tallneck safely and use Aloy's spear to override the Tallneck. As you are doing this, a blue holographic map should briefly appear that shows you the surrounding area. After you have overridden the Tallneck, you need to use your zipline to get down quickly and safely. While you are doing this, it will send out an EMP blast that can temporarily cripple nearby machines. Once you are safely on the ground, check your map. Points of interest such as Cauldrons and Machine Sites should now be visible.
