Fortnite server status

The Fortnite servers are currently down. You don't need to worry, though, because this is a planned outage to usher in the changes from update 24.20. Servers went down in the early hours of the morning, and should be back before too long.

Why are the Fortnite servers down?

When the Fortnite servers are down, that’s usually due to the developers updating the game or if a big bug has caused problems for players.

Since Fortnite Chapter 4 season 2 is out, we can assume that if the servers are down at any point in time, it’s due to pre-planned maintenance and maintenance not much else.

If you want to know why servers are down or how to check when they are due to go down next, follow the Fortnite Status Twitter. This is generally informed about any major changes or when the next server changes are due to happen.

If the servers are down but the Fortnite status Twitter has not made a tweet about it, there's a chance the error could be on your end. If this is the case, try a few things. First, turn off your game and on again. From Xbox and PlayStation, you have to go to the menu, hover over Fortnite and click start. Then, you have to actually close the game. Open it up again and hope it has worked.

If this doesn't fix it, try disconnecting your internet and connecting it again. There's a chance it is just on your side. If not, wait a few moments and try out the servers again.
