From Skyrim and Fallout to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, as well as games like Elden Ring and the Resident Evil 4 Remake, we here at Gfinity cover an awful lot of mods, with all of them hopefully offering something that’ll make your latest playthrough of any of those games a bit more interesting.
This month has certainly delivered a strong selection of works, with everything from an Oblivion-style arena in Falkreath to a portable TV, and even the chance to have a mouse ride on your head having possibly arrived in your load order.
With this in mind, we thought it might be cool to highlight five of the best mods that we’ve featured over the course of April. So, here we go…
5. Skyrim’s Dragonborn atones for their sins
click to enlargeThis month’s top five starts off on a rather holy (or blasphemous, depending on your choices) note, with Steelfeathers’ ‘Gods And Worship’. This massive mod, which serves as a very compelling alternative to EnaiSiaion’s massively popular ‘Wintersun - Faiths of Skyrim’, adds an in-depth affinity system to the game’s array of Aedric and Daedric deities.
Naturally, this is great for roleplayers whose characters are staunch followers of a particular God, providing boons and penalties designed to incentivise living in a manner which pleases them. However, where the mod really comes into its own is via the option for those who’ve garnered enough favour to be able to set up a new temple to their beloved omnipotent force, which doubles as a fully-functional player home. Just make sure you don’t fill it with so much loot and gear that you can’t walk between the shrines without stepping on a sword.
4. Resident Evil 4’s Remake morphs into a Super Mario horror game
click to enlargeWhile the Super Mario movie has been shattering box office records and generating plenty of discourse this month, deep in the wilds of Spain, it’s spawned something quite extraordinary. Not satisfied by adding pandas to Capcom’s remaster, modder SupremeLeader777 has gradually been swapping out its entire cast for Mario characters.
From Leon becoming Mario, to Ashley becoming Princess Peach and even Krauser morphing into Bowser (a real home run for the rhyme-loving crowd there), all of your favourites from the Mushroom Kingdom are here to dial up the surreal action. SupremeLeader777 has even recently made Yoshi the merchant and added a photo of Mario to Krauser’s desk in order to keep things nice and immersive, so not putting their massive collective effort on this list would be a disservice.
3. Elden Ring players get very confused about where they are
click to enlargeThe tough and terrifying bosses that inhabit Elden Ring have rightfully earned the game a fearsome reputation and prompted an endless number of wacky challenge runs. For those who don’t fancy trying to beat Malenia with the power of their mind, modder Thefifthmatt’s ‘Elden Ring Fog Gate Randomizer’ might be the ideal thing to mix up your next playthrough.
Doing exactly what it says on the tin and randomising the destinations of every mysterious screen in the Lands Between, this work is bound to disorient and bamboozle even the most hardened of souls veterans. In fact, if you want a bit of a preview of how confusing things can get with it installed, you can check out this streamer’s efforts to navigate randomised Elden Ring using a Bop-It.
2. Fallout 4 players get their hands on one of Fallout London’s guns earlier than expected
click to enlargeAs much as they love exploring post-apocalyptic America, many Fallout fans have been desperate to travel further afield for a while now, in order to see what’s become of the rest of the world in the wake of nuclear armageddon. The Fallout London project for Fallout 4 is currently set to deliver just that later this year and now you can enjoy an early preview of it via ‘The Lewis Gun’.
Adding a highly-customisable gun from World War One to your arsenal, this standalone work from the team behind the wider project will give you a chance to become familiar with the firepower you’ll be up against when you finally make the trip across the Atlantic. Just make sure you spend some time practising pronouncing the ‘I’ in aluminium too!
With that, we’re down to just our victor. So, without further ado, here’s 2023’s fourth mod of the month:
1. One of Skyrim’s best Daedric quest mods gets a choice-heavy third chapter
click to enlargeThe denizens of Oblivion, with their powerful artefacts and complex whims, have played a key role in a lot of the most intriguing quests and adventures across all of the games in the Elder Scrolls series. Living up to its label of being “DLC-sized”, Fableforge and co’s ‘There is No Umbra - Chapter III’ continues the story of Daumbra with an emphasis on the choice and consequence all RPG lovers crave.
It also includes an enticing array of new and unique powers to unlock as you work your way through its fully voice-acted missions, including the ability to ‘wear’ different bodies, teleport enemies away from you and turn Daumbra into a weapon that you can ride like a hoverboard.
