August 24, 2022 -

The Killer Klowns from Outer Space game is official! Seemingly out of nowhere, with no leaks or expectations prior to the show, the game was revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022. Teased so far with just a cinematic trailer, it's set to slot into the fledgling asymmetrical horror genre.

Not too much is known about the game just yet, but you can wishlist it on Steam now and sign up for a beta, expected to take place fairly soon.

What is Killer Klowns from Outer Space?

As hinted at, Killer Klowns from Outer Space is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, based on the 1989 film of the same name. Ten players partake in 3v7 matches, with three playing as the eponymous Klowns and seven as the human residents of Crescent Cove.

During a match - the length of which we don't yet know - both Klowns and humans have separate tasks. As a Klown, your job is to kidnap as many of the human survivors as possible and take them back to your spaceship. As a human, you can win by fleeing Crescent Cove, deactivating the spaceship, or keeping more than half of you alive by the end of the match.

On top of that, there are plenty of different classes across both factions. There are five Klown classes: Jumbo the scout, Shorty the fighter, Chubby the tank, Spikey the tracker, and Rudy the trapster. Their roles are already quite self-explanatory. The five human classes are based on classic horror tropes, with a biker, cop, punk, redneck, and teen.
