Dislike Capitalism, but love indie games? Well, an upcoming narrative adventure game now set to star Zelda Williams of The Legend of Korra fame and Tommie Earl Jenkins from Death Stranding will offer players a chance to get their hands on it at PAX East.

Written and directed by Jörg Tittel, The Last Worker promises “a first-person narrative adventure centred around our struggle in an increasingly automated world”, produced and developed by a collaboration between production company Oiffy and indie studio Wolf and Wood.

Published by Wired Productions, who’ve also just released the bone-chilling Martha Is Dead, the game was already confirmed to feature several well-known actors, including David Hewlett, Jason Isaacs and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.

“Who would’ve thought a casual conversation on Twitter in the middle of a global pandemic would somehow lead us here?”, said Williams, adding: “I’ll be forever grateful that Jörg saw fit to send another battle-weary warrior woman my way, and it was a joy to lend her my voice.”

“Working with such a stellar cast would be miraculous enough on a major feature film or series, But to have such world-class actors lend their talent to an indie game must make me the luckiest man alive,'' adds Tittel, whose narrative will seek to deliver a story that’s both comedic and emotionally compelling.

“No matter how dystopian they want to make the real world, ours at least will be full of colour and crafted with love.”, he continues, alluding to the hand-crafted art style the game is set to feature.

For North East England based indie studio Wolf and Wood, who’ve made their name over the past few years largely by developing VR games like The Exorcist: Legion, The Last Worker represents another big opportunity to build up their name.

“The anticipation of seeing the first public demo of the game is really building in the studio”, said Ryan Bousfield, the studio’s Creative Director.

The Last Worker is currently set to be released at some point in 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Meta Quest 2.

Access to the game at PAX East will be available at the Wired Productions booth at 14:30.
